Advocate

Give Your Voice!

Advocacy is a call to action. It is speaking for those who haven’t found their voice. Your support creates awareness around issues that affect our community. People cannot solve problems that they cannot see.

United Way of Elkhart & LaGrange Counties is working to advance solutions for families that are working hard but struggling to survive. By participating in public policy efforts that coincide with the human service work currently being done in our community, United Way can significantly increase the investment made to our community and its residents.

We are launching a new nonpartisan platform for people to take action, and we need your voice.  The conversation about advocacy in Northern Indiana begins now.  It begins with you.

In 2018, 941,166 Indiana households (37%) had income below the ALICE Threshold, meaning that they were unable to afford even the most basic budget. These families are working hard to survive. We want to see them thrive.

Inequalities are exacerbated by the current pandemic. Isolating in place is a luxury that many ALICE families cannot afford. Differences in income and savings determine who can stay home, buy protective gear and essential items, take time off work when sick, and access quality health care.
