To mobilize the caring power of Elkhart County to improve communities and individual lives in measurable and lasting ways.

We engage people, communities and organizations focused on meeting the needs of ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) households and creating the conditions necessary for a better life.

Our Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal... or "BHAG"

How we got here...

... In 2009, United Way of Elkhart County began a study on the "working poor" in Elkhart County, focusing on the impact areas identified by the community as the most pressing issues that we face (EDUCATION, INCOME, and HEALTH).  We've spent the last six years focusing on these community impact measures with our partners and have made great success.

There are a lot of things happening in our community.  Big things. But we know focusing only on programmatic solutions is not enough-- it will take the collective action of the entire community working together on systemic change in order to reach our vision of fewer ALICE families living on the edge.

That's what it means to LIVE UNITED.
