Job Title: President/CEO
Reports To: Board of Directors
Description: United Way of Elkhart County, Inc.(UWEC) seeks a proven leader in resource development, management and leadership. This person will provide strategic leadership to maximize and achieve the United Way mission. Develops strategies to foster and increase financial resources for education, income, health and volunteerism initiatives. Creates awareness in the community and ensures involvement of varying constituencies. This person maintains operational accountability and fiscal integrity within the policies set by the Board of Directors. Must exhibit enthusiasm for serving people, working with volunteers and community leaders, and collaborating with other agency professionals. Must be widely trusted and seen as a person of integrity.
Summary: The President/CEO serves as the chief professional officer, appointed and employed by the Board of Directors. This person is responsible for the overall direction, management and effectiveness of the organization. Provides strategic, collaborative and innovative leadership focusing on maximizing resource development and community impact and creating and building awareness of United Way's role in the community. Maintains accountability for the overall operational and fiscal integrity of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Represents UWEC at community functions and speaking engagements, presenting a professional image and advocating the United Way's mission.
- Develops strategic partnerships with other not for profit organizations.
- Provides effective team leadership, guidance and support to UWEC staff.
- Meets regularly with community decision-makers and builds significant relationships with individuals from public, private and nonprofit sectors. These include corporate CEOs, elected officials, school superintendents and UW agency executives.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Understands and operates effectively within the political environment of the local community and state and national United Way.
- Keeps organization compliant with United Way Worlwide requirements as well as all state and federal requirements/regulations.
- Responsible for the financial management of the organization and all of its programs. This includes development and monitoring of operating budgets, payments to vendors and funding partners, oversight of financial controls, maintenance of financial records and preparation of the audit.
- Oversees hiring, training and supervision for existing and new staff members including the assignment of work responsibilities, timely performance appraisals and staff development plans.
- Presides over strategic planning and implementation to accomplish UWEC's mission.
- Keeps the Board of Directors informed of the organizations activities, goals and progress.
- Assists the Board of Directors with direction in matters of policy formulation and strategic planning.
- Effectively manages the United Way brand as a strategic asset.
- Oversees UWEC’s technology assets.
- Works with VP of Resource Development and Marketing to develop effective and unified message for use in campaign materials and all public relations materials.
- Works with VP of Community Impact to ensure the development of effective solutions to meet community prioritized needs with an acceptable level of “return of investment”.
- Cultivates new sources of volunteer leadership throughout the community.
Fundraising Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership to develop the financial resources to achieve UWEC's community impact agenda. Establishes resource development goals with the Board of Directors and maintains regular contact with major donors.
- Guides and supports the VP of Resource Development and Marketing and the Board of Directors in developing, implementing and measuring effective resource development strategies.
- Develops and cultivates relationships with current and potential donors including corporations, foundations and individuals.
